What is 7th Pay commission?

The 7th pay commission was introduced on 25th September 2013 by the then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and was approved by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh (2004 to 2014). The commission was headed by Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur. The revisions by the pay commission were expected to be implemented from 1st January 2016, but was delayed due to certain problems. The 7th pay commission suggested a hike of 23% that would benefit 1 crore government employees.

7th pay commission pay matrix:

The status of a government employee must be decided by the level in the new Pay Matrix and not by Grade Pay. To ensure greater transparency, the Commission has recommended replacing the system of grade pay with a new pay matrix.

The 7th Pay Commission revisions are very much needed, with the rising costs of living. It is time for an upgrade to ensure the employees of the Central and State Government are happy with their pay and their positions. Establishment of a new pay matrix and an advanced pay scale ensures that pensioners and salaried employees get a 2.57% hike in existing income. Pay scale for Indian Air Force:

The recommendations made by the 7th pay commission on the pay scale of the Indian Air Force employees are based on officer’s rank, branch, area of posting and designation. The pay structure for Indian Air Force employees is as follows:

The pay commission has also revised allowances paid to the IAF employees which are summarized below:

7th Pay commission salary calculator:

Many web aggregators provide 7th pay commission salary calculator that helps users calculate the hike in salaries recommended by the commission, along with the benefits they are about to receive. To calculate your salary hike as recommended by the pay commission, all you must do is visit the website of any web aggregators that have salary calculator based on gazetted notifications.

You have to enter your salary details like current pay band, grade pay, current 6th CPC basic pay, HRA percentage, travel allowance and so on. After entering the details, click on the calculate button. The result will be displayed on the screen containing the new salary along with the benefits you are about to receive, post implementation of the 7th pay commission.

7th pay commission pension:

The commission recommends changes in the current pension scheme. The new formulation scheme aims to bring parity between existing pensioners and current retirees. The new pension will be calculated by placing the current pension into the new calculation system. The changes recommended by the 7th pay commission are as follows:

  • Revised pension for Civil and Defence Personnel including CAPF to bring about parity.
  • The pay commission has also made recommendations regarding the method of calculating the revised pension.
  • The pay commission has introduced a slab based system for disability element to compute disability pension.
  • In case of death on duty, the amount of compensation given to the dependents of the employee undergoes a revision.
  • Recommendations have been made for revision of NPS.

7th pay commission pay scales for teachers:

Previously, under the 6th pay commission, the salary received by graduate teachers in high schools and primary teachers ranged between Rs 9,300 to Rs. 34,800 each month. Along with the basic salary, they also receive a grade pay of Rs 4,600 a month. Teachers are expected to receive a major hike in salaries, once the 7th pay commission comes into force.

The new basic salary for graduate teachers teaching in primary and high schools is expected to rise along with a rise in grade pay. The retired central government teachers will also receive a revised pension benefit that is expected to rise up to 24%. The revised salaries as per the 7th pay commission are as follows:

JBT teachers

Rs. 9300 to Rs. 34800 along with grade pay of Rs. 4600 per month

Rs. 29900 to Rs. 1,04,400 with a grade pay of Rs. 12600 per month
