The Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a government-funded health insurance scheme, launched by the honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in September 2018. The scheme aims to provide Rs 5 Lakh insurance cover per family per year for secondary and tertiary health care for poor families in India. The scheme was launched simultaneously in 445 districts across 30 states in India.
The beneficiaries covered under this scheme can avail cashless health care treatment from any public/ private hospital, empanelled under the scheme. The scheme provides coverage to all members of the family and helps the beneficiary access quality health care facilities by enrolling in Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

The Ayushman Bharat Scheme is designed keeping in mind, the medical needs of the economically backward people in India. The PMJAY scheme includes only those who belong to the deprived rural families and identified occupational category of urban workers. Economically backward people from both rural and urban families are included in this program. The major objective of Ayushman Bharat Scheme is to strengthen primary health care by solving gripping health care issues. The scheme aims at making medical treatment affordable, by introducing an excellent health insurance scheme. This health insurance scheme mainly covers BPL families and workers in the unorganized sector.
If an individual fulfils the eligibility criteria set by the government or is engaged in any of the above mentioned professions, then he is automatically eligible to receive the benefits of the scheme.
There is no need to make a registration or fill an online application form, to avail treatment under PMJAY mega health insurance scheme. All eligible beneficiaries can avail treatment just by showing their Aadhaar card or Ayushman Bharat family cards or Ration card or Voter ID card. However, for treatment under PMJAY a second-time, Aadhaar card is mandatory.
