Individual Health Policies: Individual health insurance plans cover the expenses related to dental problems under the basic plan. For additional benefits or higher sub-limits on dental insurance, the policyholder will have to pay an extra premium to get dental surgeries covered.

Critical Illness Policies: The critical illness policy covers critical illnesses. Some critical illness policies may cover the cost of dental surgeries that come under the category of critical medical procedures as mentioned in the policy terms.

Family Floater Health Insurance policies: As most of the policies offer cashless benefits to the insured, dental insurance is covered under the family floater plans. The policyholder and the other insured members can avail dental insurance under these plans.

Preventive Health Insurance Policies: Preventive health insurance plans are offered by health insurance providers for regular medical check-ups; so that the policyholder is able to identify diseases and take precautions. The health polices that provide insurance cover for medical check-up, consultation fees also cover the cost of dental expenses.

Personal Accident Cover: Sometimes personal accident riders offer the insured, dental coverage in case the insured requires dental treatment for an accident.

Health Insurance Policies in India That Provide Dental Care as a Part of Their Package:

All health insurance providers in India do not cover dental treatment. However, some health insurance providers cover the cost of dental treatment as a part of their package.

Apollo Munich Easy Health: This is a comprehensive health insurance plan offered by Apollo Munich and covers day care procedures, in-patient and out-patient treatment and so on.

Dental treatment is covered under out-patient procedures; only after a waiting period of 3 years. The dental procedure coverage is available under the premium insurance plans and there are sub-limits on coverage.

The plan covers 50% of the total cost of dental treatment. The inclusions under this plan are dental X-rays, root canal treatment, extractions, composite filling, and dental treatment for acute traumatic injury.

Bharti AXA Smart Health Insurance Plan: This is a family health insurance plan which covers the cost of hospitalization, domiciliary treatment, critical medical procedures and pre and post-hospitalization expenses. The plan offers insurance cover for dental procedures; only in accidents. The normal dental procedures cannot be claimed under this policy, unless the dental injury is due to an accident.

The coverage comes under the Optimum insurance plan; which offers 1% of the sum assured for dental treatment. The plan also offers follow-up treatment under the same doctor for up to 15 days; provided it falls under the maximum allowable limit.

Bajaj Allianz Health Guard Policy: This is an individual health insurance plan that covers in-patient hospitalization due to an illness or an accident. The policy offers insurance cover for dental treatment and surgery of all types. However, the plan does not cover the cost of hospitalization for the treatment of dental surgery/ treatment as a part of the package. The plan covers the cost of treatment, doctor’s fee and also offers follow-ups with the same dentist. The plans have a waiting period post which the insured can raise claims for dental treatment.
