The Income Tax Department has launched the ‘lite’ e-filing facility. This helps you and several taxpayers with easy and quick ITR filing.  The ‘e-Filing Lite’ is a lighter version and doesn’t carry the same links available to taxpayers on Portal Login on the I-T E-filing website. You can use ‘e-Filing Lite’ if you only wish to file Income Tax Returns.

The ‘e-Filing Lite’ facility is now available on the official portal of the Income Tax Department. You must visit the home page and access the ‘Quick ITR Filing’ link. You click on the link and go to ‘e-Filing Lite’. However, this offers services only to registered e-Filing PAN users.

How to File ITR with ‘e-Filing Lite’ Option?

  • You must open the income tax e-filing home page.
  • You then click on the new ‘Quick ITR Filing link’. This shows up on the left under ‘Quick Links’ menu.
  • You would see a pop-up describing services which can be accessed in the ‘Lite’ version. You must then click on ‘Continue to e-Filing Lite’.
  • You then enter the PAN Card number, password and Captcha code. (You must first register to do so). If you have not registered, click on the register option on the top right to continue.
  • You then click on ‘Income Tax Return’ option in the ‘e-File’ menu.
  • You must then fill in details like Assessment Year for which you want to file ITR, ITR form name, PAN Number, Date of Birth and so on, will be pre-filled.
  • You then verify with either digital signature certificate or the Aadhaar OTP. (For this Aadhaar must be linked with PAN).
  • You must then read the instructions and click on the arrow to go to the next section.
  • You will find the ‘Part A General Information’ tab. You must fill in details like type of return, employer category, returns filed and so on. After you finish, click on ‘Save Draft’ and then ‘Next’.
  • The next tab is “Tax Details” where you must fill information related to TDS. You then click on ‘Save Draft’ and then Next.
  • You then go to the ‘Taxes Paid and Verification’ tab and fill details like total tax paid, bank accounts held in India and so on. You then verify pre-filled personal details, click on ‘Save Draft’ and then ‘Next’.
  • You go to the ‘80G’ tab. After you finish filing the details, click on ‘Save Draft’ followed by ‘Preview and Submit’.
  • A pop-up appears asking you to preview the filled form. Another option appears called go back and make changes appears. You then choose the appropriate option.
  • You can download the filled form as Preview PDF’. If all details are fine, click on ‘Submit’ after which a pop-up appears for confirmation. You can also tap on ‘Edit’ to make changes to the form and then submit.
