The UIDAI has offered a new way of verifying your residential address, under which there is no requirement of furnishing a valid address proof. In this method of verifying the address, the Aadhaar cardholder must produce an address validation letter from the house owner or address verifier. The house owner by giving an address validation letter would authorize the tenant to use the address for Aadhaar card.
After obtaining consent from the address verifier, you must visit the official website of UIDAI and log in using your Aadhaar details and OTP received on the registered mobile number, to generate an address validation letter.
The address validation letter would contain a secret code and would be sent through a mail to the address of the verifier. The verifier upon receiving the mail would inform the Aadhaar card holder of the secret code and the cardholder must login to his Aadhaar card to validate the secret code. Once you validate the code, your address would be updated on the Aadhaar card. You can download your Aadhaar after updating your address.
Please note that this method of updating details is available only for address update. For updating other details like name and mobile number, you must mandatorily visit an Aadhaar enrolment center with the requisite documents in original and photocopies.

India is a country where some citizens still believe in the conservative approach. The moment you tell the owner that the address would be used for an official purpose, he or she might hesitate to give their consent citing legal reasons. They would not like to be involved in any legal and official process that you might get into later and hence decline your request for consent. They might insist on signing a rental agreement rather than giving consent.
