How to Apply for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Fellowship?

 

 

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a government of India initiative introduced in the year 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology. The KVPY program is a national level fellowship program that works towards motivating students studying basic science to pursue a career in research. The program aims to identify meritorious students and encourage them to pursue a career in research. The program offers contingency grants for up to the pre-Ph.D level. The main objective of the program is to help students realise their academic potential and ensure growth of these young aspirants.

Scholarship rewards under the KVPY fellowship program:

The candidates need to qualify the KVPY aptitude test and clear the interview round. The shortlisted candidates are eligible for the KVPY fellowship program. The candidates are eligible to receive fellowship from the 1st year of graduation. A KVPY fellow is eligible to receive Rs. 5000 monthly fellowship from 1st year to 3rd year of B.Sc/ B.Stat/ B.S/ B.Maths/ Integrated M.S/M.Sc along with an annual contingency fund of Rs. 20000. Upon completion of graduation, the fellowship is enhanced to Rs. 7000 per month during the M.Sc along with an annual contingency grant of Rs. 28000.

Eligibility:

The scheme is applicable only for the citizens of India. KVPY fellowship program expects the applicant to fulfil the following eligibility criteria that has been categorized into three major streams. They are stream SA, stream SX and stream SB:

  1. The applicant must be enrolled in standard XI (science subjects) in the academic session 2018-19
  2. The applicant must have secured a minimum aggregate score of 75% in mathematics and science subjects in class 10th
  3. The applicant must join UG course like B.Sc/B.Sc Math/ B.Sc Stats/ Int. M.Sc/ Int. M.S

Stream SX

  1. The candidate must be enrolled in standard XII (science subjects) in the academic session 2018-19
  2. The candidates must be willing to join an undergraduate degree programme in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics like BSc/SC/B.Math./B.Stat. /Int. MSc/Int. MS for the session 2019-20 after securing a minimum aggregate score of 75% in Mathematics and Science in class 10th. Also, they must have 60% in Mathematics and Science in class 12th.
  3. The candidates studying in the 2nd year of Cambridge International Examination Board who aspire to join an undergraduate programme in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics like BSc/SC/B.Math./B.Stat. /Int. MSc/Int. MS in 2018-19 can also apply for the fellowship, provided they obtain a minimum aggregate score of 75% in Mathematics and Science in class 10th and 60% in Mathematics and Science in class 12th, prior to taking up the fellowship (if awarded).

Stream SB

  1. The candidates must be enrolled in first year of UG program in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and mathematics like BSc/SC/B.Math./B.Stat. /Int. MSc/Int. MS in 2018-19
  2. The candidate must secure a minimum aggregate score of 60% in mathematics and science in standard XII
  3. The candidate must have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% in the first year final examination before taking up the fellowship.

The selections procedure of the program involves shortlisting the candidates in two stages, namely aptitude test and interview. The applications received by the selection committee will be scrutinized thoroughly and the applicants who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria for various streams will be called for the aptitude test. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, the short-listed candidates will be asked to appear for an interview. The interview is the final round for the selection procedure, post which the final results will be declared along with the names of the selected candidates.

Listed below are the important dates for young aspirants who wish to participate in the KVPY fellowship program:

  • KVPY 2019 online registration: July 2019
  • KVPY 2019 Exam date: November 2019
  • KVPY written exam results: December 2019
  • KVPY 2019 interview dates: January- February 2020

Application Fee:

For enrollment in the fellowship program, the candidate must submit a one-time application fees of Rs. 1000 along with bank charges. The transactions can be carried out online and payments can be made through credit card, debit card or net banking. The application fees for SC/ST/PWD applicants is Rs. 500 plus bank charges.

How to Apply Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Online?

Step 1: KVPY Registration

  • Visit the KVPY website and select the 'applications' button
  • Click on the 'login for application' button
  • It will display general information
  • Read the information carefully, tick the disclaimer and log in
  • Select 'click here for registration' option to start the registration process

Step 2: Registration Confirmation

  • Once the registration is successfully completed you will be informed through a confirmation message on your registered mobile number and email along with your login details.

Step 3: Filling the KVPY Application Form

  • Once you receive your login details you can start your application process
  • Login using the registered email id and password
  • Provide the details required in the field, including your personal details, academic details, aptitude test preference, etc.

Step 4: Upload Supporting Documents

  • Scanned photograph in JPEG/JPG format with a size less than 150 KB
  • Scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format with a size less than 80 KB
  • Scanned copies of caste certificate (only for SC/ST candidates) and medical certificate (for PWD) in PDF format with size less than 300 KB.

Step 5: Paying the Application Fees

  • Once the documents are uploaded, you will be redirected to the application fee payment gateway. Here you have to submit the one-time application fee.

Step 6: Final Submission of Application Form

  • After payment of the application fee, you may submit the application form to complete the application process.

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is administered by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. Candidates who qualify for the aptitude test are called for a face-to-face interview. The shortlisting of candidates are done after the interview based on their merit and fellowships are granted to eligible candidates. Out of one lakh applicants, about 2500 candidates receive fellowship under the KVPY program.
