How to Apply for PAN Card?

PAN Card Online Application Process:

Outlined below is the PAN Card online application process:

  • Visit the official website of NSDL or UTIISL. You can apply through both the websites as they are authorized issuers of PAN in India.
  • You would see the option ‘New PAN’ on the home page.
  • Select Form 49A for Indian citizens under the New PAN option.
  • Fill in your personal details in the form, like name, permanent address, date of birth, gender, mobile number and income details.
  • After filling the form with authentic details, enter the captcha code and submit the form.
  • Pay the processing fees and select the option of physically submitting the documents.
  • Take a printout of the page containing 15 digit acknowledgement number and sign in the requisite space.
  • Affix your passport size photograph on the acknowledgement paper and attach proof of identity and address along with the demand draft.
  • Send the above documents to the NSDL office via post after submitting the online application (within 15 days).
  • The PAN Card will be delivered to your mailing address within 15 working days.

PAN Card offline Application Process:

If you are not acquainted with the online application process, then you can also apply for PAN Card through the offline method. The process is simple and requires submission of the form and the documents by visiting the NSDL office.

  • Visit the official website of NSDL or UTIISL.
  • Download Form 49A for Indian citizens from the website
  • You can also collect an application form from the UTIISL agents
  • Fill the form with all necessary details and affix your passport size photograph
  • Attach all supporting documents with the application form like address proof, identity proof and so on
  • Submit the form, documents and the processing fees to the NSDL office
  • You will receive PAN Card to your mailing address within 15 working days.

Steps to Procure a Duplicate PAN Card:

The PAN Card contains a unique identification number issued by the Income Tax department to the citizens of India. The PAN remains valid across your lifetime. In case of theft, damage or loss of PAN Card, you can get a duplicate PAN Card issued. Follow the steps below to procure a duplicate PAN Card:

  • Visit the official website of NSDL or UTIISL
  • Apply for ‘PAN change request’ application form and provide the necessary details
  • Applicants who wish to procure a duplicate PAN Card without any change in details, should not select any box on the left of the margin after filling all the details in the form
  • For such applications, the address will be updated on the PAN database based on the address provided in the application form
  • Once the address is uploaded, you must submit the related documents.
  • Pay the fee either via net banking or credit/debit card. After paying the fee, an acknowledgement is sent through which the application status for procuring the duplicate PAN Card can be tracked.

Generating a PAN Card requires minimal documentation. Certain basic documents must be submitted like proof of identity and proof of address for generating the PAN Card.
