Applying for the Voter ID online is very simple and can be done in just a few steps. You can apply for voter id online through the official portal of the Election Commission of India. The website has got all information on the election process in India.
If you are 18 years or above, you can apply for the voter ID in India. The applicants can be categorized into the following three groups:
a) General new voter: You come under this category if you live in India and apply for a voter ID for the first time.
b) Change in constituency: You come under this category if you have changed your permanent address.
c) Overseas voter: Non-Resident Indians (NRI's) come under this category. NRI's have all the right to vote in India, even if they are not physically present in the country. But, they should not have citizenship of another country.

a) One recent passport-sized photograph.
b) Copy of age proof: Birth certificate/ passport/ PAN card/ driving licence/ Aadhaar card.
c) Copy of address proof: Passport/ Driving licence/ bank passbook/ ration card/ rental agreement/ utility bill.
1. To apply for the voter ID online, you must visit www.nvsp.in, which is the official website of the Election Commission of India. After you visit the website, you must select the first option shown on the website, if you are a new voter staying in India. You must select the second option if you are an NRI.
2. As soon as you select the required option, you will be taken to a fresh page which has got Form 6. This form will appear in Hindi, and you can either translate to English or Malayalam from the available options.
3. Once you choose the language of preference, you have to select the State and District where you reside. You will then be asked if you are a first-time voter or you are applying for a voter ID due to a shift in constituency.
4. You must fill the entire form by attaching the required documents and submit.

Downloading voter ID card online is very simple. After you apply for the voter Id, you will get an application number on your phone and registered email ID. By using this application number, you can check if your voter ID is ready or not. As soon as your voter ID is ready and uploaded on the website, you can download voter ID card by clicking on the 'Download' button. You can also take the physical copy of the voter ID.
You cannot download the soft copy of the voter ID as a hologram has been included in it. You can just see the information mentioned in your voter ID.
