A car insurance claim refers to a process where the policyholder raises an insurance claim to get compensation for the damages caused to the insured vehicle in an accident. The compensation is given by the insurer in the form of cashless claim or reimbursement after verifying the documents and the condition of the vehicle. The car insurance also provides coverage when unintentional damage is caused to a third-party due to an accident. A policyholder can make claims when he/she is involved in an accident.
The car insurance claim process can be categorized into two types:
Cashless Insurance Claim: A cashless car insurance claim is where the insured does not have to make any upfront payments for repairing the damaged vehicle. However, the vehicle must be repaired at a network garage as specified by the insurer. The car insurance company confirms the liability and settles all payments on behalf of the policyholder. The policyholder must make sure the damages are included in the policy before claiming the cashless insurance benefit.
Car Insurance Reimbursement Claims: if the insured vehicle is damaged and taken to the garage for repairs, (This is not a network garage), then the policyholder can claim reimbursement. This is a common scenario, in case the vehicle gets damaged on a highway or in a remote place, then the reimbursement claim can be raised. In this type of claim, the policyholder has to pay for the damages and later submit the necessary documents to get a reimbursement. The policyholder must submit all related documents like bills, repair receipt and claim registration number for getting the reimbursement.
