What is NVSP?

The national voters service portal or NVSP is an online platform, which provides support services related to voter ID card to the citizens of India. The NVSP portal was introduced by the Election Commission of India on 25th January 2015, with the objective to provide a secure and single window for all processes related to the Voter ID card.

This online portal allows voters to register themselves online and also helps existing voters carry out changes in their voter ID card like a name correction, address correction, date of birth correction and so on. The user has to fill relevant forms on the NVSP website. The user can also upload relevant documents on the website, necessary for making the changes. 

The NVSP portal makes it easier for the citizens to access services related to the voter ID card. Now, an individual does not have to visit the electoral office to make changes and update the voter ID card. A user can easily use the NVSP website to change address and update the location. The NVSP portal enables voters access voter ID related services in a hassle-free manner.

What Forms Should You Fill Out?

The NVSP portal offers a wide range of services related to the Voter ID card. There are 5 different categories of forms which address all issues faced with regard to the voter ID card.

  1. Form 001: The user can fill this form in case they have lost their original voter ID card and seek a duplicate voter ID card. The form contains 4 sections namely, application for issue of replacement elector’s photo identity card (EPIC), mandatory particulars, address and declaration. You can provide all the necessary details and choose a convenient option to receive your duplicate voter ID.
  2. Form 6: Form 6 is a must to obtain a new voter ID card. To register on the electoral list, an applicant must be an Indian citizen and must be above 18 years of age. The applicant must also upload some important documents like age and address proof and also the passport sized photograph. A user can access this service even if he is away from home and living in another constituency.
  3. Form 6A: Form 6A is an application form meant for the inclusion of names for overseas voters. The form contains 9 sections and each of the mandatory fields must be filled by the applicant with right details to enrol for a voter ID card. The declaration part contains some of the criteria that must be fulfilled by the applicant to obtain the Voter ID card.
  4. Form 7: Form 7 is filled when an applicant objects to inclusion or seeks deletion of name in the electoral rolls. The applicant can fill and submit this form to remove the name of a deceased family member from electoral rolls or in case of a change in permanent residence. The applicant must provide supporting documents and proof. In case of the removal of the name from electoral rolls on death of the voter, the form is generally filled by a family member.  
  5. Form 8: Form 8 is the most commonly used electoral form. This form helps voter’s make changes to the existing voter ID card. Using this form an applicant can make changes in the electoral roll details like name, age, photograph, address, gender, DOB and so on. The form must be carefully filled and submitted along with supporting documents. An applicant can only use this form to make changes to his own voter ID card and not anyone else.
  6. Form 8A: Form 8A helps voters submit an application for transportation of name in the electoral rolls. This form is used when a voter has shifted from one location to another, within the same constituency and wishes to transfer the name to the appropriate electoral roll.
