Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme is a non-contributory scheme launched by the Ministry of Rural Development in India, to provide pension to people above 60 years of age, living below the poverty line (BPL). It is a social pension scheme and a part of the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP). The scheme provides a monthly income for citizens or to refugees above 60 years, who have no other source of income.

National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a scheme launched by the Union Government that provides financial assistance to the elderly people with disabilities and also widows by giving them monthly pensions. There are two categories of pension offered according to the age of the beneficiary. For BPL citizens of age group 60-79 years, the pension amount is Rs 200 a month. BPL citizens who are 80 years or above receive a pension amount of Rs 500 a month.
