Know Your 200 Rupee Note



You have seen the new 50 Rupee Note. Now it's time to take a look at the new 200 Rupee Note. RBI had issued the first ever 200 Rupee Note on August 25th 2017. The new 200 Rupee Note will help reduce the burden on the Rs 100 Note. The new 200 Rupee banknotes will be issued in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series and will bear the signature of Dr. Urjit R. Patel, the Governor of the RBI.

Let's take a look at the salient features of the new 200 Rupee Note...The 4th new note launched since last November. Remember the new 2000, 500, 50 and now the 200 rupee note?

Know Your 200 Rupee Note

The new 200 Rupee notes are a bright yellow in color with dimensions of 66mm * 146mm. Take a look at the front view of your new 200 rupee note.

Front view:

  • There is a see through register with denominational numeral 200. Latent image with denominational numeral 200. 
  • Denominational numeral  in Devnagari.
  • There is a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre.
  • Micro letters 'RBI', 'India' and '200' 
  • There is a Windowed security thread with inscriptions and RBI with color shift. Color of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.
  • You will also see the Guarantee Clause, Governor's signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait.
  • If you look carefully you will see the Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right hand side of the note.
  • Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.

What if you are visually impaired?

If you are visually impaired there is an intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised identification mark 'H' with micro-text Rs 200, four angular bleed lines with two circles in between the lines both on the right and left sides.  Now turn the note around and take a look at the reverse of the new 200 Rupee Note.

Reverse view:

  • There is the year of printing of the note on the left.
  • There is the Swachh Bharat logo with slogan ek kadam swachhata ki aur and the Sanchi Stupa motif which depicts India's rich cultural heritage.
  • There is also the denominational numeral in Devnagari.

Finally on an ending note, the design of the new 200 Rupee Note is made keeping in mind various factors like  ease of transactions for the common man, replacement of soiled banknotes, inflation and the urgent need to combat counterfeiting.
