RETIRE WITH PRIDE - 10 : Do Not Kill Your Learnings With You If Those Are Worth Sharing

Heard this famous saying by Albert Einstein, “The Only Source Of Knowledge Is Experience.” You are 60 and retired.  You are a well of knowledge and experience. The sad truth in life….Just like all human beings on this earth….you too will die one day. Worse…your knowledge and experience will die with you. Do you want this to happen? Do you want an important source of knowledge to be lost forever? I’m sure you don’t….

Do you remember those interesting lessons at school, on ancient civilizations like the Indus Valley Civilization and the Egyptian Civilization? Does it surprise you that studies have found that the Indus Valley Civilization, could be much older than the Egyptian Civilization? How did you learn of such interesting civilizations? Through historical documents…scrolls….Basically knowledge of ancient civilizations, stored in historical documents, which somehow survived many centuries. Today, you can store and pass on knowledge and experience, in ways your ancestors could not even dream of. IndianMoney.com believes that most of the social problems are because of Lack of Financial Education. Feel you want to be financially educated? Store your knowledge in a blog and pass it on

Think of a blog as an online diary. A way to share your knowledge and experience with future generations. You are the only member of your family, who really understands money….You make all financial decisions on behalf of your family, not to mention cousins and even distant relatives. Your children don’t know anything on financial planning….Your nephew comes to you saying…Help me choose a good health insurance plan….Your niece says, help me avail a home loan….Your cousin wants you to help him invest in a good fixed deposit.

You’re 60 and retired. You wonder…how will your family and relatives; manage their money in your absence. Then a bright idea….Why not live forever? Seems you have gone mad. How is this possible? Writing can make you live for many centuries, after your demise…But there’s a catch. You have to publish your work. Why not write a blog, where you can share your financial knowledge and experience, not only with your family, but with pretty much anyone who needs it? Knowledge and experience on personal finance like insurance, mutual funds, stocks, tax planning, estate planning, retirement planning and real estate, is rare. If you have it…you must share it. Build a legacy which will outlive you, simply by writing a blog.

Distribute knowledge through guest lectures

Teacher’s Day is almost upon you, but…There are not many quality teachers in our country. The shortage is even more severe, when it comes to higher education. On topics like financial planning and personal finance, there is a severe shortage of quality trained lecturers. If you have good knowledge and experience in personal finance, or any other topic which is in great demand in the industry….it would be a crime not to share it, with the younger generation. What better way to share knowledge, than giving guest lectures? For those who don’t know, guest lecturers are invited to college campuses by the management or faculty. If you have knowledge and experience on subjects like personal finance or any other subject which the industry demands, you might find yourself being invited to give guest lectures. Here’s the good part….You get paid to give guest lectures. You need to be prepared to answer a few questions, which intelligent students of the modern generation ask. A nice way to earn money in retirement.

Consultancy is good money

You have dedicated your life to business. You are filled with the knowledge and experience of working in diverse fields, from financial services to information systems. Now you are retired. Should you sit at home twiddling your thumbs, just because you’re retired? Do you want to waste a source of knowledge, which could be a treasure to a business? Why not be a consultant and help a business, which so badly needs your experience? Wonder what a consultant does? Consultants share their expertise and knowledge with businesses, to attain goals of a business and solve problems, businesses face. Yes….a business pays handsomely for your knowledge and expertise….You don’t have to work as a consultant all day. Just a few hours a week…And you can work for more than one business. If you have held a good position in your Company, you have knowledge and expertise in a field which has high demand, you have a good track record of past accomplishments…expect a few Companies, to give you a call to work for them as a consultant.

So don’t say….I’m retired….I have nothing to do…..I will die soon. Share your expertise with a business and get paid handsomely, just by working for a few hours.

Your grandchildren need your knowledge

Heard this saying, “Grandchildren fill a place in your heart you didn’t know was empty.” Retirement is a great time to spend time with your grandchildren. You can share your knowledge with them and leave a lasting impression in their lives. Who knows….Your grandchildren could be the next big thing in business. A CEO of a big Company….perhaps an expert consultant like you.

If you have knowledge and expertise, retirement is not an excuse to waste time. It is a crime to kill your learning’s with you, if those are worth sharing. Imagine the colossal loss to your family, relatives and the society, if you die without sharing your knowledge. Businesses need you. The children of today are the citizens of tomorrow. How can you deny them the stream of knowledge? Last, but not the least, our Nation needs you. As India emerges as a knowledge superpower, you have the pleasure of having done something for your Nation.
