The scheme was launched as a part of the government’s efforts to create awareness on energy efficiency. The main objective of this scheme was to reduce energy consumption by lowering the use of incandescent bulbs, tube lights, CFL bulbs and increase the use of energy efficient LEDs. Through the scheme, the government wants to promote the idea of using efficient lights like LED bulbs to reduce electricity bills among households in India.
Normal bulbs use an exorbitant amount of energy and give a lower output which amounts to a higher bill. Energy efficient lights use 1/10th of the energy used by normal bulbs and produce the same or higher amount of light compared to normal bulbs.LEDs emit lesser amount of heat and save your money by consuming a lower amount of energy. This makes LEDs more efficient for use.
The distribution process of LED lights will be carried out in phases. Special counters will be set up in rural areas as well as urban centers through which these lights will be distributed. The Government informs the masses beforehand through awareness drives like distributing posters and leaflets. People can access these lights fromcounters by submitting the required documents.
