How does the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan identify the poor in India? The beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat are identified according to the SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) and the target will be the poor and deprived rural families in India and the identified occupational category of the families of urban workers. More than 8 Crore families in rural areas and 2 Crore families in urban areas will benefit from Ayushman Bharat.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan is being called the World’s largest health protection scheme. All beneficiaries under PMJAA will be given access to cashless benefits from public and private empanelled hospitals across India.
The Government wants to make sure that no poor citizen is left out of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan scheme. So, Modicare doesn’t cap age and family size. Ayushman Bharat will cover pre and post-hospitalization expenses.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan will be funded by both the Centre and the State. The ratio would be 60:40 for Centre and All States and Union Territories with their own legislature. It would be 90:10 for all NorthEast States and the Himalayan States of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. All Union Territories without a legislature would get 100% funding from the Centre.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been finalized between the Centre and 14 States. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim and Chandigarh will be using the trust model for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan. Under the trust model, medical bills will be reimbursed directly by the Government.

All network hospitals must have at least 10 inpatient beds with adequate spacing and support staff. For hospitals providing surgical packages, a minimum of 15 beds is a must. It’s compulsory for selected hospitals to get the quality certification from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers, within a year of getting approval.
