If you have to drive any kind of vehicle in India, it is very important to have a driving license. Driving without a license can land you in jail. The driving license issued by the government also serves as proof of identity and this can be submitted for various purposes.
In order to get a driving license, you must first get the learner’s license. You can apply for the driving license only 30 days after expiry of the learner's license.
Applying for the learner’s license online is really easy. To apply for learner's license, all you must do is visit the Sarathi website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and follow certain steps. Here are the steps you need to follow to apply for learner's license.
1. Filling the details
To apply for the learner's license, you must visit the Sarathi website and click on the "Apply Online" option. You are shown various options on the drop-down menu and you have to pick the "New Learner's License" option.
Once you click on it, you are taken to a new page, where you will be shown the five stages of the application. You must then click on continue.
In the next page, you will be asked to mention the criteria to which you belong. You have to choose the criteria ‘applicant does not hold driving/learner license’ option and then click on the 'submit' button.
You will then have to fill the form where you are asked to provide personal details. Once you fill this form and submit it online, you will be provided with the application number.
2. Submitting the documents
Here are the documents which you have to submit while applying for the learner’s license:
Address proof
You can submit any one of the documents as proof of your address
Age Proof
You can submit any one of the documents as proof of your age
3. Uploading photo and signature
At this stage, you have to upload your photo and signature in the application by visiting the ‘Upload Photo and Signature’ section of the website. You must provide your application number along with the name of the concerned Road Transport Authority.
4. Booking the test slot
You must now book the slot for the driving test. You need to provide the application number and date of birth. After providing these details, you will be sent a verification code. Once you fill the 'Verification Code' you must click on submit, which will lead to the test slot booking procedure.
5. Payment
In this stage, you must pay the application fees by clicking on the 'application fee' under e-payment menu.
