Plastic notes have an average life span of 5 years, compared to paper notes which have a life span of just 3 years. They are stronger, much cleaner and have better security features than paper notes. Plastic notes were first issued in Australia in 1988. Today, more than 20 countries use these notes. Plastic notes have a reduced cost of production and replacement.
