Vice President Venkaiah Naidu emphasised the importance of being-proficient in one's mother-tongue and said children should also learn Hindi. "After learning your mother-tongue, if you want to learn English no problem, but I must tell you, I know I am in Chennai..(but) children should also learn Hindi," he said. "It Shouldn't be forced at all. Nobody should force any language on anybody," he said.

Inspired by popular Bollywood film 'Dhoom 2', three men, who allegedly stole 16 antique Pashmina shawls worth Rs.2 crore from the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum in Lutyens' in Delhi, were arrested, police said. The accused - Vinay Parmar, Tarun Harvodiya and Mohd Adil Sheikh - took advantage of the non-functional CCTV cameras at the museum and carried out the theft, they added.
Andhra Pradesh Health Official Kills Self Over 'Harassment'

A senior assistant in the Medical and Health department in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district committed suicide alleging that he was denied promotion for many years and was harassed by senior officials. A self-shot video, wherein N Ravikumar listed the reasons for his suicide, surfaced on Facebook. Mr Ravikumar was a senior assistant posted in the Community Health Centre at Ponnuru in Guntur district.
EPFO approves proposal to credit ETF units to PF accounts

Retirement fund body EPFO today approved a proposal for crediting exchange traded fund (ETF) units to provident fund accounts of its 4.5 crore members. Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers would be able to see ETF units in their PF accounts by March-end next year. Board also approved a proposal for centralised payment system for EPFO using NPCI platform.
Two Jammu students booked for not standing up during National Anthem

An FIR has been registered against two students of Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem. The two-students did not stand up when the National Anthem was being sung at a function at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University on Wednesday where Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra was the chief guest, District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said.
Warn hospitals against malpractices: Health ministry to states

The Health Ministry on Thursday asked all states to issue strict warnings and take action against hospitals, including private ones, which indulge in malpractices such as overcharging and don’t follow standard treatment protocols. The move comes in the wake of allegations that Gurgaon- based Fortis Hospital billed the family of a dengue patient Rs 16 lakh.
14 lakh jobs created in Karnataka in four years, says Minister

Karnataka has created about 13.91 lakh jobs in the last four years and is close to achieving the state government's target of generating 15 lakh jobs by 2019, Minister RV Deshpande said. The citizens' right of accessing the Internet is "non-negotiable" and the government will not allow any company to restrict people's entry to the worldwide web, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today. Speaking at the Global Conference on Cyberspace Security, he said the government did not allow social networking giant Facebook's Free Basics programme because it offered access to select Internet services.

Lottery trader’s son kidnapped and killed for Rs 1 crore ransom

A 31-year-old son of a Nagpur-based wholesale lottery trader was allegedly kidnapped by two men and killed for a ransom of Rs 1 crore, police said on Thursday, reports PTI. The charred body of a man, which was later confirmed to be that of the victim Rahul Agrekar’s, was found in Butibori area on the city outskirts on Wednesday, a police official said.
CBI Files Chargesheet Against 592 People In Vyapam Scam

As many as 592 people, including four promoters of private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh, have been named as accused in a chargesheet filed by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularities in a Vyapam case. The VYAPAM scam is an admission and recruitment fraudulent scheme, beginning in 1995, involving politicians, senior officials and businessmen in Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).

Vodafone has announced that is bringing doorstep facility for Aadhaar linking and SIM upgrade. From Jan 1 2018, all phones must have GPS: Govt

From January 1 2018 onwards all smart phones shall have the GPS facility. In an order the government has said that with effect from January 1 2018, no smart phone handset manufacturing company shall sell the new smart mobile phone handset in India without the facility of identifying the location through satellite based GPS.

Security threat at Ahmedabad railway station

Security forces sprung into action after a letter was received by local authorities received an anonymous letter threatening to bomb Ahmedabad railway station. Travellers at the station were moved away from the area as a bomb detection unit was immediately pressed into action along with sniffer dogs.
