New drug to boost India's efforts to end malaria by 2030

A new drug called Krintafel got the US Food and Drug Administration nod to treat P. vivax malaria, which accounts for 34% of the estimated 13 million cases in India. Developed by a non-for-profit research and industry partnership, it is the first new treatment for P. vivax malaria in more than 60 years and is all set to get fast-tracked approvals for use globally.

Key scientist 'moved out', seen as out of race for ISRO chief post

An eminent scientist who is credited with developing space-borne radars, which can pierce through clouds and aid military surveillance, map annual cropping patterns and accurately predict cyclones, has been moved out as director of the Ahmedabad-based Space Applications Centre (SAC), a crucial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which has been in the forefront of developing payloads for satellites.

Vegetarian diet helps keep Indian gut healthy: Study

The primarily vegetarian diet of rural Indians might be keeping their gut healthy and populated with good bacteria, a recent study has found. Scientists from Translational Health Science and Technology Institute in Faridabad found that gram-positive bacteria are more populous in the gut of Indians than gram-negative, as believed earlier.
