Indians pay 35% more for petrol than neighbouring Pakistanis

Consumers in India spend as much as 35% more on petrol than consumers in Pakistan. The cost of one litre of petrol in Pakistan stood at Rs 51.61 on Tuesday, while the average price in India was around Rs 80.22 per litre. In Sri Lanka, consumers pay around 20% less for petrol as compared to consumers in India.

$1.2 Million Ransom Demanded For Teen In A 'Bitcoin Kidnapping'

A gang who kidnapped a South African teenager from a playground at the weekend have demanded a ransom in bitcoin cryptocurrency worth about $123,000, police said Tuesday. The 13-year-old boy was taken in the eastern province of Mpumalanga while he was playing with friends near his home and was driven away by captors in a car.

India 145th among 195 countries in healthcare access, quality

India ranks 145th among 195 countries in terms of quality and accessibility of healthcare, behind its neighbours like China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan, according to a Lancet study. The Global Burden of Disease study, however, mentioned that India has seen improvements in healthcare access and quality since 1990. In 2016, India's healthcare access and quality scored at 41.2 (up from 24.7 in 1990).

E-catering launched on 23 major stations of Western Railway

Western Railway (WR) today launched the e-catering facility at 23 major stations on its network enabling passengers to order food of their choice from a wide range of restaurants and food chains while on move. The e-catering initiative was launched by the IRCTC, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, in 2015, and was extended from time to time to cover more number of trains.

Foreign tourist arrivals register over 4% growth in April 2018

Over seven lakh foreign tourists arrived in India in April 2018, registering a growth of 4.4% over last year, the Tourism Ministry said today. The ministry compiles monthly FTAs and FTAs on e- Tourist Visa on the basis of information received from BOI. "FTAs in April 2018 were 7,49,477 as compared to 7,17,899 in April 2017, registering a growth of 4.4%," a source said.

Three Men Stab Whatsapp Group Admin For Removing Member

The "admin" of a group on the popular messaging platform WhatsApp was assaulted at the behest of a member who was incensed by his removal from the group, police said. Ahmednagar-based Chaitanya Shivaji Bhor, 18, was attacked by three persons with a sharp weapon, a senior police official told. The incident occurred at a mess on May-17 night on the Ahmednagar-Manmad road, police said.

Samajwadi Party Richest Regional Party With Rs.83 Crore Income: Report

The total income of 32 regional political parties in 2016-17 was Rs.321.03 crore, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) showing the highest amount of Rs.82.76 crore, says a report. These 32 regional parties declared a total expenditure of Rs.435.48 crore during the year, the ADR said in a report today. Of these total 32 parties, 17 of them showed Rs.114.45 crore collectively as unspent income.

Kerala To Unveil World's Largest Bird Sculpture 'Jatayu'

Kerala tourism will inaugurate the world's largest bird sculpture, Jatayu Earth's Centre, here on July 4, Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said. The sculpture, spread over 65 acres in Thiruvananthapuram, has been built at a cost of Rs.100-crore. "This has been the work of film-maker Rajiv Anchal and this project was declared under built-operate-transfer basis during the previous Left government in 2006," said Mr Surendran.

Cop Suspended After Alleged Attack On Wife Of Ravindra Jadeja

A day after a police constable allegedly attacked cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Reeva, he was suspended today, officials said. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also took note of the incident and called up local MLA Dharmendrasinh Jadeja to take stock of the situation. The constable, Sanjay Ahir (28), a resident of police headquarters, was suspended today by Jamnagar district Superintendent of Police, Pradeep Sejul.

10 women employees file sexual harassment claims against McDonald's

China Makes Massive Cut to Car Tariffs After Truce With Trump

China on Tuesday announced that it will slash the import duty on passenger cars to 15% starting July 1 from the current 25% which has been in place for over a decade.
