India to counter US protectionism with e-commerce, data security bills

After retaliating against the US withdrawal of preferential treatment for its exports, New Delhi plans to counter Washington's growing protectionism with two pieces of legislation that can have wide-ranging impact on American firms, according to officials familiar with the matter. India imposed retaliatory tariffs on 28 American products from June 16 a decision it had put off for almost a year.

NASA hack compromises data of current, former employees

Personal information of some of current and former employees at NASA may have been stolen in a data breach that hit the US space agency in October this year, a media report said. In an internal memo sent to employees yesterday and published by US-based space news portal SpaceRef.com, NASA admitted to getting hacked almost two months after the breach was discovered.

Data protection: DoT may be stricter than Srikrishna panel

With telecom operators being the largest handlers of data, including sensitive personal information, telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan has said that security and protection here is paramount and hence operators may have stricter data protection regulations compared to those recommended by the BN Srikrishna panel. She, however, stressed that the sector already has clear provisions that data must be stored only in India.
