The Meghalaya government assured a Punjab government delegation on Thursday that it was "duty-bound" to protect the people of all communities living in the state. Meghalaya Home Minister James PK Sangma gave this assurance to a four-member delegation from the northern state, Punjab MP Jasbir Singh Gill told mediapersons in Shillong. The Meghalaya government is sincere and wants to restore normalcy.

The Punjab government announced a compensation for the violence hit Sikh community in Shillong, Meghalaya. Sikhs and their properties were attacked during the clashes between the tribals and non-tribals including Sikhs. The Captain Amarinder Singh government approved relaxation in instructions of the Relief and Resettlement Department for providing Rs.60L as compensation to the Sikh-community against damage caused to their properties during violence in Shillong.

Officials Seize 350 Kg Cannabis In Meghalaya, One Arrested

Customs officers seized more than 350 kg cannabis and arrested one person for smuggling the contraband near Meghalaya capital Shillong on Sunday, a customs department officer said. The value of the seized contraband is more than Rs. 50 lakh in the international market, the officer said. The 24 packets containing cannabis were found concealed under empty plastic crates, officer said.
