Over 60% trees transplanted by MMRCL dead, claims Aarey activist

An activist, identified as Zory Bhathena, who is representing the petitioners in the Aarey Tree Cutting case claimed that a substantial number of trees planted by the MMRCL, where tree cover was affected during the work of Metro 3 project, are already dead. The MMRCL is set to submit its detailed report on the trees planted in Aarey and Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

The MMRCL cut down 2,141-trees in Aarey Colony between Friday and Saturday, the organisation said hours after the SC ordered a stay on further cutting till its next hearing on October-21. The top-court's ruling came after the Maharashtra-government said it had already cut-down the trees it needed to for its plan to clear 33-hectares of Aarey-land for the construction of a car-shed and depot.
