A day after moving the SC over conduct of local-body-polls in Tamil Nadu, DMK chief MK Stalin accused the ruling AIADMK regime of "creating confusions" on matters connected to the civic-elections. MK Stalin, the leader of opposition in the Assembly, said Chief-Minister K Palaniswami and his cabinet colleagues were levelling false charges that the DMK was thwarting holding civic polls by pursuing legal options.

In a-bizarre-statement, veteran Tamil-Nadu-politician C Ponnaiyan held the wind responsible for the tragic death of the Chennai software-engineer who was killed last month after an illegally erected hoarding fell on her. Speaking to a local-television-channel, Mr Ponnaiyan claimed the person who erected the billboard could not be held responsible for the woman's death and said "if anyone has to be booked, it's the wind".

The implementation of free rice scheme in Puducherry suffered a virtual deadlock on September 7 with Lt Governor Kiran Bedi declining to concede the plea of the territorial government that rice alone should be distributed to ration card holders. Narayanasamy said the Lt Governor declined to concede the government's decision and told the delegation that she had forwarded the file to the Centre.
