Liquor sales growth has slowed dramatically in the nine months to September, with experts attributing this to floods in some states and an increase in taxes muting demand amid the broader economic slump that has seen consumption taking a hit. Adding to the impact on numbers is the high base of 2018, when the market grew 10% to a six-year high.
Top Official Transferred For Allegedly Demanding Alcohol From Juniors

A senior official, posted as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in Madhya Pradesh's Guna, was transferred for allegedly demanding booze and non-vegetarian food from his juniors. Dilip Mandavi has been transferred from the post of ADM to Deputy Secretary in the state secretariat. The juniors were allegedly made to pay for the food and drinks.

Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi said prohibition on alcohol cannot work everywhere as it did in his state. Speaking on recent hooch incident in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, he said the incident was unfortunate and should not be linked with the feasibility of the idea of prohibition. He said alcohol consumption wasn't a "taboo" in several states.
