Alok Verma resignation rejected, govt asks former CBI chief to rejoin work for a day

The government has rejected Indian Police Service officer Alok Verma's resignation from service. Alok Verma was director of the CBI. He was shunted-out from post earlier this month. In protest, Alok Verma resigned from IPS. However, Ministry of Home Affairs has rejected his resignation effectively asking him to rejoin work. But for a day today is date Alok Verma would have retired from service.
Top Court Judge Recuses From Plea Against Selection Of Interim CBI Chief

SC Judge Justice N V Ramana recused himself from hearing a plea challenging the Centre's decision to appoint M Nageswara Rao as interim CBI Director. Justice Ramana became the third judge of apex court to recuse himself from hearing the matter as CJI Ranjan Gogoi and second senior-most judge in the court Justice A K Sikri had earlier recused themselves from adjudicating the case.

Rakesh Asthana, number 2 to former CBI chief Alok Verma, was moved out of the premier investigating agency today, just a week after the removal of his boss. The unprecedented public rivalry between the officers involving tit-for-tat corruption allegations and a bribery case against Mr Asthana had engulfed the country's premier investigating agency in a huge controversy over the last months.
