Antigua assures India full cooperation in Mehul Choksi's extradition

The Antigua and Barbuda government has assured India of its full cooperation in the extradition of Mehul Choksi, an accused in the PNB scam. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had met with her Antiguan counterpart Chet Greene on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly. Greene categorically stated that the entire legal procedure will be followed in extraditing Choksi.

Defending himself, fugitive diamantaire-Mehul said that all allegations against him by the ED are "false and baseless." "All the allegations labeled by the ED are false and baseless. They have attacked my properties-illegally without there being any-basis of the same," Choksi said in his first-interview since the multi-crore rupee-scam tumbled out. All questions by ANI to Choksi were asked by his lawyer in Antigua.

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said that the country won't succumb to pressure from the Indian government to arrest PNB scam-accused Mehul Choksi. "We are a country of laws and we have to respect the constitutional rights of our citizens," he added. However, Browne said the country remains fully committed to assisting India wherever possible.
