The United States wants New Delhi to quickly ease restrictions imposed in Kashmir, a senior official said Thursday after President Donald Trump met the leaders of India and Pakistan. "We hope to see rapid action the lifting of the restrictions and the release of those who have been detained," Alice Wells, the top State Department official for South Asia, told reporters.

After opposing the Centre's resolution to revoke provisions of Article-370 and a bill to bifurcate J-K, NDA ally Janata Dal struck a reconciliatory note and said the law that had come into force should be accepted and abided by all. The national general secretary of the Janata Dal, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, said the party does not wish to engage in further ideological sparring.
