Jinson Johnson wins silver in Berlin, qualifies for World C'ships

Asian-Games gold medallist Jinson Johnson bettered his own 1500m national-record while clinching a silver in the ISTAF Berlin event on Sunday. Johnson clocked 3 minute 35.24 seconds to finish second behind Joshua Thompson of US at the Olympic-Stadium. The earlier national record in the name of the 28-year-old Kerala runner was 3:37.62 which he had clocked at Nijmegen in the Netherlands in June.
Saurabh Chaudhary wins gold with world record, secures Olympic quota

India's 16-year-old shooter Saurabh Chaudhary won a-gold-medal in men's 10m Air Pistol event at ongoing ISSF World Cup 2019 at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. It is India's second gold in World-Cup as Apurvi Chandela won nation's first gold-medal. Saurabh, who won a gold at Youth Olympics last-year, defeated Serbia's Damir Mikec to claim the gold with a-world-record score of 245.
Rs 100 crore earmarked for funding of athletes under TOPS for 2020 Olympics: SAI

The Sports Ministry has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the funding of athletes under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for their preparations for 2020 Olympics, according to Sports Authority of India Director General Neelam Kapur. The TOPS, which was launched in September 2014, is a flagship programme of the sports ministry to provide financial assistance to potential Olympic medal winners.
