Over 10,000 people affected in Assam floods, 2 dead in Nagaland

Over 10,000 people have been affected in the floods in Assam and two people have died in Nagaland floods after it rained heavily for over 72 hours. Several rivers are flowing above the danger level in both the places following incessant rainfall. Floodwaters have submerged over 100 villages in Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts.

Floods in Assam claimed one more life on Sunday, pushing the number of dead to 90, even as the overall situation improved considerably. Nearly 88,000 people remain affected by the floods in 10 of the 33 districts of the state, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Till Saturday, around 1.22 lakh people were affected in the 10 flood-battered districts.

Three days of extremely high-rainfall may have been the biggest factor in triggering the massive floods in Assam that that have already affected 57-lakh-people, forced 1.51-lakh to relief camps and left 30-people dead this month. Rainfall data shared by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati with NDTV reveals that Assam received 95% more rain than normal on July-13 and 127% more on July 14.
