Ex-BJD MLA Anam Naik arrested in disproportionate assets case

Former BJD MLA Anam Naik has been arrested by anti-corruption sleuths of the Odisha Police for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, said the source. His arrest assumes significance as he is the first BJD politician to come under the vigilance scanner, in accordance with the state government's policy of zero tolerance for corruption.
China shuts down transport in eight cities around virus epicentre

China has now shut down bridges, halted public transport and closed a major airport to restrict the movement of some 26-million people around the epicentre of a deadly virus outbreak. Huangshi, with a population of 2.4-million, became the latest city in Hubei province to shut transport routes Friday as it closed a ferry terminal and bridge over the Yangtze River, and suspended public transport.
Shiv Sena questions Centre on democracy ranking drop, economic woes

The Shiv Sena on Friday said there have been attempts to muzzle dissenting voices and this is one of the reasons for India slipping in the 2019 Democracy Index's global ranking. An editorial in Sena mouthpiece "Saamana" said a slowdown in the economy gives rise to unrest and instability, and this was getting reflected in the prevailing situation in the country.
