A teenage boy is in critical condition after he sustained bullet injuries, along with two others, following a clash between workers of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Patrasayer in West Bengal's Bankura district. Expressing concern over the injury of the teenager, BJP state President Dilip Ghosh said it is unfortunate that people are being shot for shouting a slogan.

Political violence in Bengal took a dramatic turn as the state BJP, following a face-off with the police, prepared to cremate the bodies of workers who died in Saturday's clash on Basanti highway. Hundreds of agitated workers gathered at spot and preparations had started for funeral pyre. But the party reversed the decision midway, announcing a series of protests, including a statewide "Black Day".

In West Bengal, ruling Trinamool and BJP held competitive Ram Navami events over the weekend; and though the sword was on limited display in comparison to last year, there was no beating about the bush. If a dance with a mace or the "Jai Shri Ram" slogan could catch the attention of the voters, neither BJP nor Trinamool fought shy of doing the needful.
