Maharashtra govt holds review meeting on Bhima Koregaon case

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh met senior police officials here on Thursday to review the case of violence at Koregaon Bhima in Pune on January 1, 2018. NCP leader Deshmukh, after taking charge as Home minister, said earlier this month that he would seek a status report on the case and then take a decision.

The Pune Police filed an application in the Pune Sessions Court seeking a 90-day extension to file charge sheet against four people Sudha Bhardwaj, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Varavara Rao in the Bhima Koregaon violence case. The four activists were arrested from various locations on August 28 for their alleged role in instigating caste violence in Maharashtra's Bhima Koregaon village on January 1.
Bhima-Koregaon case: HC ends house arrest of activist Gautam Navlakha

The Delhi High Court today allowed Gautam Navlakha, one of the five rights activists arrested in connection with Bhima-Koregaon case, to be freed from house arrest. The High Court granted him the relief saying that the Supreme Court last week had given him the liberty to approach the appropriate forum within four weeks to seek relief, which he has availed.
