Smelling anomaly, watchdog may tighten rules for P-notes

The Securities and Exchange Board of India(Sebi) is planning to further tighten rules for participatory notes(P-notes), offshore derivative instruments issued by brokers to foreign investors not registered in the country, said people with knowledge of the matter. The capital markets regulator has found instances where foreign brokers have issued P-notes against Indian derivative contracts to overseas clients, who don't own the underlying local shares.

Currency in circulation jumps to Rs 19,699 crore

The week ended October 4 saw currency in circulation jump to hit Rs.22 lakh crore an increase of Rs.19,699 crore. The growth in the value of currency notes has crossed Rs.69,077 crore during the current financial year a rise of 3.2%. The last time currency in circulation had grown higher was in the week ended June 7, 2019, when total currency rose Rs.22,272 crore.

Railways protests against IRCTC public offer price

The national transporter has lodged a protest about the price at which shares were offered to investors and has sought better due diligence for future transactions, given the long pipeline of public offers of state-run companies.
