Bombay High Court Upholds Death Penalty Clause For Repeat Rape Convicts

The Bombay HC upheld the Constitutional validity of an-amended-section of the IPC under which repeat offenders in rape-cases can be awarded life imprisonment or death penalty. A division bench of Justices B P Dharmadhikari and Revati Mohite Dere dismissed petitions filed by three convicts in the Shakti Mill gang-rape-case challenging Constitutional validity of legal provisions under which they were sentenced to death in 2014.

Maharashtra Governor CV Rao will swear in the current Rajasthan HC Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, as new Chief Justice of Bombay HC an official said in Mumbai on Friday. He will take over from the present Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Justice Naresh Harishchandra Patil who retires on Saturday. Justice Pradeep Nandrajog will take oath as new Chief Justice of Bombay HC.

Pay Rent To Those Evicted From Homes Near Water Pipeline: High Court

The Bombay HC directed the Maharashtra government to pay Rs.15,000/month as rent to people who were rendered homeless after their dwellings, located near a key water pipeline here, were demolished. The BMC, in compliance with a previous HC order, has been demolishing unauthorised buildings, including residential and commercial structures, along the Tansa water pipeline that runs across nine administrative wards of the city.
