Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro underwent surgery on Sunday to repair an abdominal hernia, his fourth operation since being stabbed in the stomach a year ago at a campaign rally, his doctors said. The operation at Sao Paulo's Vila Nova Star hospital lasted more than five hours, the medical center reported in a statement signed by his surgeon, Antonio Luiz Macedo.

Brazil on Monday rejected aid from G7 countries to fight wildfires in the Amazon, with a top-official telling French President Emmanuel Macron to take care of "his home and his colonies." Nearly 80,000 forest fires have broken-out in Brazil since the beginning of the year just over half of them in the massive Amazon basin that regulates part of Earth's carbon cycle and climate.

The G7 will give $20 million (18 million euros) to send firefighting planes to tackle the blazes engulfing parts of the Amazon, the presidents of France and Chile said Monday. Macron had declared the situation an "international crisis" and made it a priority of the summit of the G7, which comprises Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.
