Modi Government To Launch Broadband Readiness Index Of States

The government is planning to launch broadband services readiness index of states based on parameters like infrastructure, approval processes and utilization of the high-speed Internet. "We want to ensure that 5G is not limited to urban areas," Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said. "We will do comparative evaluation of all states and highlight best policies for other states to adopt," she added.
For Reliance Jio subscribers, RIL will produce short films, serials

RIL is setting up its own production house to create original web-series and short-films for subscribers of its telecom unit Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, as it seeks to maintain an edge over competing offerings. The company expects this will help attract more users to its 215-million wireless user base, and also when it formally introduces its wired broadband-service towards the end of this year.

Reliance Jio's recently announced broadband offering will impact multiple system operators (MSOs) and direct to home (DTH) players, but will benefit content providers, a report said today. "Jiogigafiber, a fibre-based broadband service for homes and businesses, by Reliance Industries has the potential to disrupt the retail broadband segment and open up new digital avenues for the enterprise broadband segment," India Ratings said.
