China province defends ban on Tibetan lessons

Chinese authorities defended a ban on schoolchildren attending informal Tibetan language classes taught by Buddhist monks in western China, as religious and cultural freedoms in the country come under increasing pressure. A county in western Qinghai a province with large Tibetan population that is mostly Buddhist in December ordered an immediate halt to informal language classes taught by monks during the winter school holidays.
Rescued Thai cave boys to become Buddhist novices and monks

The 11 boys of a football team rescued from the cave in Thailand will become Buddhist novices. The boys will live in a Buddhist temple for nine days as part of a promise made by their families in thanks for their safe return and in memory of former Navy SEAL Saman Kunan who died during the rescue operation.
Dalits from Haryana threaten to convert to Buddhism

A Dalit organisation in Haryana has alleged that people from the community in Hisar districts Bhatla village are being socially boycotted by members of the upper castes and have threatened to convert to Buddhism. Due to the social boycott in the village, people are being forced to sell their animals and they are being deprived of employment, Raj Kumar, a Dalit, said.
