Two-Dalits were allegedly thrashed by a village chief for stealing potatoes from a field in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr. "We got the information about the incident on January-10. Prem Jat, Meenu and Rakesh allegedly stole a sack of potatoes from a field belonging to a man called Rinku. Meenu and Rakesh belong to a scheduled caste," Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh told ANI.

Six men arrested for inciting violence that led to the murder of a police inspector in Bulandshahr last December, were welcomed with garlands by members of right-wing groups after they were released on bail on Saturday. Shikhar Agarwal was the chief of the local BJP youth wing. The two others Hemu and Upendra Raghav are part of a right-wing group.

The Uttar Pradesh government included stringent charges under NSA against three people accused of slaughtering cows in the Bulandshahr district, an incident from last month that is believed to have been the trigger for violence that led to the deaths of two-people, including a police inspector. Afaq Ahmad, advocate for the three accused, said they had been falsely implicated in the cow slaughter case.
