Shiv Sena or Uddhav Thackeray Did Not Demand Burqa Ban: Sanjay Raut

Shiv-Sena-leader Sanjay Raut has clarified that demand for burqa-ban made in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana was not that of Sena or its chief Uddhav Thackeray. In his weekly-column-published in Saamana's Sunday edition, Mr Raut, who is Marathi daily's executive-editor, said, "The burqa-ban was not the demand of Shiv-Sena or Uddhav Thackeray. Saamana just published an analysis of the developments in Sri Lanka."

The Shiv Sena called for a ban on use of burqa by women of a-particular-community as it threw its weight behind a-similar-plan being mulled by the Sri Lankan government in the wake of Easter-terror-strikes which claimed over 250-lives. "People wearing face-masks or burqas could pose a threat to national security," said Sena in an editorial in the party mouthpieces, "Saamana" and "Dopahar Ka Saamana".
Wife of jailed Saudi blogger calls for burqa ban in Ontario

The wife of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, who has been jailed by the kingdom for "insulting Islam", has urged Ontario's Premier Doug Ford to ban burqa in the Canadian province. "Nowhere in Islam is a woman required to cover her face. This is medievalist misogyny," Ensaf Haidar said. Haidar along with her three children took refuge in Canada in 2013.
