Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said in Kerala's Kozhikode that the ongoing protests in the country over the citizenship-law could be defused if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah assure that they would "drop the idea of the National Register of Citizens" and will no longer go to every door asking for documentary proof of "where your father and mother were born."

Citizenship Law Isolates India From World: Ex-National Security Adviser

Former NSA Shivshankar Menon said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is a "self-inflicted diplomatic goal". Speaking at an event in the capital, Shivshankar Menon claimed that the contentious Act "isolates us from the international community". He warned the government that "if we are changing the idea of India, we have to be ready for the consequences it brings along with it, too".

"If Discipline Is Broken...": Mayawati Suspends MLA Over Citizenship Law

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, who has been a vocal critic of the amended Citizenship Act, has suspended a party MLA for supporting the law amid widespread protests across the country. "If discipline is broken, immediate action is taken against MPs and MLAs of the party," she tweeted. In the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly, Ramabai Parihar is among the two BSP MLAs.
