Cabinet Likely To Consider Transgender Bill Today

The Union-Cabinet is likely to consider on Wednesday a bill which seeks to define transgenders and prohibit discrimination against them. Passage of the Transgender Persons Bill, which aims at empowering the community by defining and protecting their rights, is one of the priorities of the Social Justice and Empowerment ministry in the first 100-days agenda of the second-term of th Modi government, an-official-source said.

PM Modi's new cabinet has several first-time ministers, who were sworn into office alongwith him in grand oath-ceremony in Delhi on Thursday. The most prominent first-timer in PM Modi's cabinet is BJP-president Amit Shah. Last-evening, he had made calls to leaders who will be ministers in the new-government. On the other hand, veteran-leader Sushma Swaraj sat out of BJP government for the first time.
10% reservation for poor among upper caste: Who all will benefit?

The Modi government approved a 10% reservation for economically backward upper castes in government jobs. The new quota proposal seeks to benefit the economically backward among those castes that do not fall under the quota meant for socially backward. This means that people who do not benefit from the 50% existing quota and are below the EWS criteria, will benefit from this proposal.
