Chandrayaan-2 orbiter observes solar flares, measures Sun's X-ray emissions

The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter was able to detect a series of solar-flares over a 24-hour period beginning September-30 midnight, the ISRO said in its latest-update on India's second-Moon-mission. The solar flares (a sudden explosion of energy near the Sun's surface) were detected with the help of the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter's Solar XSM, demonstrating the craft's ability to ultimately-test for the presence of minerals on the Moon.

Chandrayaan-2: Isro has not given up efforts to regain link with Vikram lander

The Isro has not given up efforts to spring Chandrayaan-2's lander Vikram lying on the lunar surface back to life after a hard-landing more than three weeks ago, senior officials indicated on Tuesday. The Indian Space Research Organisation said on September seven ground stations lost communication with Vikram (with rover Praygan tucked inside it), minutes before its planned soft-landing on the Lunar surface.

The ISRO has not been able to contact Chandrayaan-2 lander but the orbiter is doing "extemely well", ISRO Chief K Sivan said adding that a national-level panel is now analysing what really went wrong with the lander. Gaganyaan mission is the next priority of the premier-space-agency, he added. "Chandrayaan-2 orbiter is doing very-well. All payload operations have commenced," Mr Sivan told news agency ANI.
