Over 80% pharmacies observed bandh in National Capital

As Ministry of Health proposed the recent regulations on e-pharmacies, while senior doctors, medical associations showed their support to the decision, but chemists and druggist association across the country held a nationwide protest on Friday, under which over 8.5 lakh pharmacists in the country and over 10,000 in Delhi had shut their shops for the entire day.

All chemist shops and medicine wholesale points in Odisha were closed Friday as part of the nation-wide strike called by All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists, a leader of Utkal Chemists and Druggists Association (UCDA) claimed. The UCDA has extended support to the nation-wide strike, association general secretary, Prashant Mohapatra said.

Chemists across the country have shut-down shutters on Friday to protest against the central government's move to regulate online sale of medicines. While the government has issued appeals and warning letters to chemists not to proceed on a strike it is also taking steps to ensure there are no shortages. Pharmacies in hospitals and day and night stores will remain open, according to report.
