CIC rules EVMs are 'information' under RTI Act

An Electronic Voting Machine is "information" under Right to Information Act and can be demanded by an-applicant from Election-Commission of India on-a-payment of Rs.10, Central Information Commission has ruled. This implies Election-Commission has to respond to an-RTI-application seeking the EVM either by providing it or refusing it under exemption clauses in Act. But that also can be contested before CIC, highest-adjudicating-authority in RTI matters.
Sudhir Bhargava Appointed New Chief Information Commissioner: Report

The government has appointed Sudhir Bhargava as new Chief Information Commissioner along with four new Information Commissioners in the CIC which had been functioning with just three of them as against a sanctioned strength of 11, including the Chief Information Commissioner. Highly placed sources said Mr Bhargava, who is Information Commissioner in the CIC, has been appointed as new chief of the panel.
