Child marriage widespread in Bihar, Rajasthan and Bengal: Unicef report

Although child marriages in India have declined, a few states like Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan continue to carry on with the harmful practice and there is nearly 40% prevalence in these states, the Unicef said. Child marriage threatens girls' lives, well-being and futures and if efforts were not accelerated, more than 150-million girls would be married off before their 18th birthday by 2030.
Minor Girl Married Off to Pay Debt; Girl Set on Fire in UP

A minor girl was allegedly married off by her father to a 25-year-old man in Greater Noida two months ago so he could pay off a debt. Her mother lodged a case on Sunday, following which her father and husband were arrested. The girl, reportedly aged 11, said she was thrashed, sexually assaulted and made to do all the housework.
