Virat Kohli, Mirabai Chanu recommended for Khel Ratna

Team India captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who bagged gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018, have been recommended for this year's Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country's highest sporting honour. If approved by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Kohli will become the third cricketer to get the award after Sachin Tendulkar (1997-98) and MS Dhoni (2007).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met and congratulated the medal winners at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. "Accomplishments in the sporting arena inspire everyone. Their sporting feats have raised India's stature. Whenever an Indian sportsperson wins on the global sporting stage, it is the Indian flag that rises," Modi said at the event held at his residence.
India end third best CWG show with six medals on final day

The star badminton trio of Saina Nehwal, P.V.Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth were the centre of attraction as the Indian contingent ended their campaign at the 21st CWG. India bagged a total of six-medals on the final day. India finished the Games with 26-golds, 20-silvers and 20-bronze medals. This year's total of 66-medals is the third-highest haul for India in the history of the CWG.
