Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a meeting of the Congress's top decision-making body on Sunday, insisted that he did not want to continue as party president after its debacle in the national election. He remained firm on his decision to quit even after the party unanimously rejected it. Rahul Gandhi's offer to resign was unanimously rejected by the Congress's top body, party leaders said.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has dropped veteran leaders Digvijaya Singh and Janardan Dwivedi from the new Congress Working Committee (CWC), which is the party's highest decision-making body. The new CWC includes 23 members, 18 permanent invitees, and 10 special invitees. The new CWC also includes former party chief Sonia Gandhi, and former PM Dr Manmohan Singh as members.
