West Bengal launches free crop insurance scheme for farmers

West Bengal government has announced a crop insurance scheme in collaboration with the Agriculture Insurance Company of India (AIC), for the 2019 kharif season. The scheme called Bangla Shashya Bima (BSB) is applicable for farmers in 15 districts Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Malda, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Purulia, Dakshin Dinajpur, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas.

Modi's insurance scheme for farmers sees poor response in Rajasthan

The farmers’ interests to avail Modi govt’s flagship scheme Pradhan-Mantri-Fasal-Bima-Yojna has declined drastically in Rajasthan. A dip of 33% in its coverage has been reported, which is the highest as compared to the other states across the country. In a reply made in Parliament recently the Union-state-minister for Agriculture Purushottam-Rupala shared details of progress of the scheme which was launched in the year 2016-17.

Number of Farmers covered under PM Crop Insurance scheme comes down

Government's flagship 'PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) crop insurance scheme was launched with a view to benefit maximum number of farmers in country. However, number of beneficiaries under the scheme has come down drastically in last two years. According to information from ministry of agriculture, number of farmer applicants covered under the scheme reduced by about 85 lakh between the year 2016-17 and 2017-18.
