Plastic industry demands restructuring of customs duty

The All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (Aipma), representing 22,000 industrial units, has demanded immediate steps from the government to restructure custom duties and anti-dumping duty on import of cheap finished products. Apart from these demands, the sectoral body also wants a review of foreign trade agreements, enforcement of mandatory BIS standards and technology up-gradation fund for the industry, among others.
Premium phone cos seek Rs 4,000 cap on customs duty

High-end smartphone makers such as Apple, Oppo and Vivo have sought capping of the basic customs duty (BCD) on phones priced above Rs 20,000, at a flat rate of Rs 4,000, saying the current 20% levy has not helped push local manufacturing. Apple, Oppo, Vivo, Foxconn, and Flextronics are some of the major electronics manufacturers that are members of the association.
India mulls customs duty hike on 30 US products

India has now submitted a revised list of 30 items including motor cycle, certain iron and steel goods, boric acid and lentils to the WTO on which it proposes to raise customs duty by up to 50%. As duties hiked by the US on certain steel and aluminium products would have implications of about USD 241 million on India.
